Welcome to the Show Beagle mailing list, showbeagle-L

Purpose:

This list is for people who show, or are interested in showing their Beagle in conformation. We don't ask that you have a specific level of experience to join this list, just a sincere interest. It is free to subscribe to this list.

The rules:
Members of this list also participate in other activities, like field trails, hunting, obedience, agility etc. There are other lists where those topics can be discussed, so please keep discussion within the subject outlines.
This is a list where Beagle breeders and owners from around the globe can discuss health issues, show wins, the standards, show preparations, breeding, the occasional bragging, etc.

The list assumes we all love and treasure the breed and derogatory remarks about others (incl. judges) and/or their dogs will not be tolerated.

Please do not use the list to discuss opinions about named judges, or in any other way that could identify a particular judge. If you want to have information about the preference of a specific judge, please do so in private e-mails - not on the list.

It is prohibited to post messages to showbeagle-L with the sole purpose of advertising (in both text and signature), no matter whether it's commercially, politically, religiously or otherwise not related to the subject 'showbeagle'. The only exception to this rule is unavoidable advertising placed in the footer of the posting by any reputable free e-mail provider.

Violations against this rule, or any attempts to harvest e-mail addresses from the list will be reported to Onelist.com and various anti-spam lists.

The use of this list to advertise puppies, stud dogs or adults for sale is also prohibited. However, we do accept that the list is used for asking if any breeders in a specific area has puppies for sale, in the case were a breeder has potential purchasers, but no puppies available. This is accepted because we like potential purchasers to get access to registered, sound, healthy and typical Beagles, rather than leaving them with the option of purchasing a 'Beagle' from a back-yard breeder or a puppy-mill.

Members of this list are members of FCI, The Kennel Club, The American Kennel Club, national breed clubs or other organizations either associated with, or recognized by these organizations. Members of this list breeds to the official standard of one of these organizations.  All discussions about standards is therefore based on the above.

The moderators of this list, reserves the right to remove anybody who violate these rules from the list, without prior notice.

What is a mailing list?

Mailing lists are communities of people formed around a topic of common interest, and have been around since the beginning of the Internet. A mailing list allows people to send email to each other easily. Instead of emailing everyone on the list, subscribers of a mailing list can send their email to one address, which will then automatically send the message to everyone else. ONElist is a FREE service. The web-site is free and the mailing list services are free.

Posting an e-mail to the list:

After you have subscribed to the list, you have access rights to post e-mails to the list. When you want to post an e-mail to the list, you have to post it to the following address:

showbeagle-L@onelist.com - Address for posting e-mail to the list.

We suggest that your first e-mail to the list will be an introduction of your self and your involvement in the breed. This way, existing members (approx. 300, Dec. '99) will know who you are.

Replying to an e-mail from the list:

'Digest mail' members:
When you want to reply to an e-mail posted to the list, you simply have to 'click' on the 'reply' button in your mail application. The default reply address for 'digest mail' members is set to the list address.
Remember to clear the contents of the original mail before posting your reply. Leaving only the subject field intact should in most cases be sufficient to identify the subject of discussion you reply to. For clarification, you can alternatively leave a line or two from the original e-mail.

NOTE! it is especially important that you, when subscribed to digest mail, remove most or all of the originally contents of the mail before hitting 'Send' in your mail application. Otherwise the next digest mail from the list will become to large for some members subscribed with free e-mail providers to view it.

'Normal mail' members:
When you want to reply to an e-mail posted to the list, you have to 'click' on the 'reply' button in your mail application, then change the recipient to the list address (showbeagle-L@onelist.com). The default reply address for 'normal mail' members is set to the authors address.

Volume of mail to this list is substantial.
Think about who you are addressing before you post a mail. If your mail can start with e.g. "Dear Thomas" or "Hi Susan" you should probably post your mail privately. Try to avoid one-line messages like "Thank you Thomas", "I agree" or "Welcome Susan" etc. - use normal netiquette - this makes live easier for everybody.

Note! If you want to reply privately to the sender, then you HAVE to change the recipient address to the one you want to post a mail to, after you hit the 'reply' button.

Remember to sign your e-mail, so we all know who the author is. Depending on the set-up in your mail application, the only other way to identify you is by your e-mail address, and that is sometimes not sufficient.

We will also like to remind you, that this is an international list and therefor suggest that you try to avoid abbreviations. What is obvious to you, might not be understandable for people on the other side of the globe.

Subscription commands through e-mail:

You can subscribe, unsubscribe or change your subscription through simple e-mail commands. All you have to do is to send an e-mail to one of the below addresses, you do not need to write anything in the subject field or in the body of the message.

After you have sent the e-mail you will receive a confirmation e-mail which you will either have to reply to, or connect to the URL stated in the e-mail, this action will enable your subscription or changes.

Subscribe/Unsubscribe by e-mail:

showbeagle-L-subscribe@onelist.com - subscribe to the list.
showbeagle-L-unsubscribe@onelist.com - unsubscribe from the list.

Change subscription form by e-mail:

With mailing lists, you have two subscription options. You can subscribe to the normal version (default) of the list, which means that every e-mail that is sent to the list is sent immediately to you. Or you can subscribe to the digest version of the list, which means that you will get one e-mail each night that contains all the e-mails sent to the list during the day. If more than 25 e-mails is sent to the list, a digest e-mail will be sent immediately. Currently (Dec. '98) this list receives 40-60 e-mails a day, which in turn generates 2-3 digest e-mails a day. We highly recommend you switch to digest mode.

showbeagle-L-digest@onelist.com - switch your subscription to digest mode.
showbeagle-L-normal@onelist.com - switch your subscription to normal mode.
